Directions

Assembly:

Size S:

  1. Insert the small tube through the hole on one side on the small flow switch. Pull it through the hole and adjust the length as needed.
  2. Snap the tube into the slot on the other side. Pull the tube into the "Close" position.

Size L:

  1. Roll the controller wheel to the end. Push the large tube through the wide opening of the large flow controller.
  2. Pull the tube to its desired position, then roll the flow controller wheel to the other end, ensuring there are no gaps.

Both:

Firmly push the PP connector into the silicone cap, ensuring the protruding end of the connector is aligned with the matching opening in the cap. Check there are no gaps.

TIP: Use only the same size tube and flow switch/controller together. Mixing different sizes may affect performance and cause damage.

PLEASE NOTE: Tubes, flow controller, connector and cap come assembled. In the event that reassembly is needed, please refer to assembly instructions listed above. The small flow switch is designed to start/stop milk flow and does not adjust speed. We recommend pulling the tube upwards to the "Open" position when the bottle is empty and the tube is not in use to avoid potential deformation.

Feeding:

  1. Clean the product and your hands before use. Fill pouch with supplemental milk. Push the silicone cap and connector firmly into the pouch opening.
  2. Insert the tube's wide opening firmly onto the protruding duct on the PP connector. Ensure flow controller/switch is set to the slowest setting to avoid leakage.
  3. Place the pouch upside down and tie around your bra strap using the secure tie. Adjust position as needed.
  4. Place the end of the tube 0.5cm away from your nipple and secure with the included medical tape.
  5. Introduce your baby to your nipple. Place the end of the tube gently into their mouth to begin feeding.
  6. Size S: To start milk flow, gently pull the tube along the groove to fit the "Open" position. To pause the flow, pull the tube inside the groove into the "Close" position.
  7. Size L: To start milk flow, gently roll the flow controller wheel. Adjust the position to manage the milk flow speed until you find your baby's preferred rate.

PLEASE NOTE: If storing milk inside the pouch, replace the cap and connector with the leakproof pouch stopper. Always follow your country's guidelines and recommendations for safely storing breastmilk.

Cleaning & Care

  • Before first use, disassemble and clean all parts of this product before placing silicone components in boiling water for five minutes to sterilise. Wash before and after each subsequent use.
  • To clean the tubing, fill pouch with warm soapy water and connect the feeding tube as normal. Turn the pouch upside down and squeeze to let water flow through the tubing. Squeeze several times to flush through. Squeeze and roll tube between your fingers to ensure thorough cleaning.
  • To rinse the tubing, fill pouch with drinking-quality water and connect the tube. Turn pouch upside down and squeeze the water through the tube. Repeat as necessary until clean. If any water is trapped inside the tubing after cleaning, drain the water from pouch, connect the tube then squeeze to flush it out. Clean tubing as soon as possible after feeding to prevent milk drying inside. It is important all residual moisture dries.
  • To clean other parts of the product, although dishwasher safe, we recommend hand washing in warm soapy water, rinsing and drying thoroughly.
  • To sterilise all parts, use a steam steriliser or boil in water for 2–3 minutes. Do not use any bleach-based agents or sterilising tablets to clean this product. Do not use a UV steriliser as this may impact this product's lifespan.
  • Only soft bristle brushes or soft sponges should be used to clean this product, as hard scourers may scratch the surface.
  • Store small parts in the dedicated storage box in a cool, dry place and avoid direct sunlight.

Frequently asked questions

How to use a Haakaa pump?
  1. Before using a Haakaa pump, it is recommended to sterilise it by boiling in water for 2-3 mins (if you have a steam steriliser, you can use this if you prefer).
  2. Place the pump flange over your nipple - make sure your nipple is centred comfortably in the neck of the pump. You can either fold the flange back and push the body of the pump to achieve a stronger suction or just push the air out by squeezing the pump's body without folding the flange back to get a lighter suction. Remember, the more air you squeeze out, the stronger the suction.
  3. Apply suction - you may need to adjust the position of your pump a couple of times. Once the pump is secure and comfortable, apply suction by squeezing the base of the pump to start the flow of the milk. Once milk starts to flow, leave the pump alone to do its thing.
  4. If milk flow slows down or you have expressed your desired amount, detach the pump from your breast and safely store your milk.
Can you catch both foremilk and hindmilk when expressing using our Haakaa breast pumps?
The Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump was originally designed as a manual pump for mums, but can also be used as a tool to catch letdown. When we breastfeed from one side, we generally have a letdown from the breast on the opposite side - though this milk is often wasted through leakage into a breast pad or in your bra. Haakaa pumps are perfect for capturing your leakage, ensuring it doesn’t go to waste. Simply pop on your pump at the beginning of a feed for a few mins to catch your precious liquid gold! Once your initial letdown has slowed, you can then remove your pump. You will likely capture mainly foremilk in these first few minutes (which is 100% fine!). If you want to use the pump to empty your breast, simply leave it on until the breast is drained to get both fore and hindmilk (usually about 10-12 mins).
What are the benefits of using a Haakaa pump?
1. Relieves engorged and uncomfortable breasts
2. Builds a breastmilk stash
3. Fantastic on-the-go pumping option
4. No electricity or charging needed
5. Easy to clean
6. Catches letdown
7. Pain-free if applied correctly
8. One-piece silicone
Why am I not getting enough milk?
There can be different reasons for this. A low milk supply can result from not pumping enough, pumping too soon after a feeding session or skipping a feed. You may also have a low supply if you're using a suction level that is not suitable or comfortable for you or even if you simply require more hydration throughout the day. Being stressed or under pressure can also affect your supply or the amount you express in a session.
How to clean and disinfect the Haakaa pump?
We strongly recommend cleaning your Haakaa pump with warm, soapy water and then sterilising it with any steam sterilising system or by boiling in water for 2-3 mins. Do not use any bleach-based agents or sterilising tablets to clean this product, as this could affect the lifespan of the pump. It is also not recommended to use UV sterilisers to clean the pump, as they may impact the lifespan of your pump as well.
